D&AD brief for duolingo

The free language learning app Duolingo created a brief to encourage people aged 16-22 to download the app and make language learning part of their daily routine. 

​

Due to the gameified nature of Duolingo, I created Localingo. A scavenger hunt campaign uncovering the hidden language connections the user's local area has with the language their learning in the Duolingo app. Duolingo prides its brand on its educational value and its fun way of learning. I was sure to priorities these values in the creation of this campaign. 

 

As learning language is the priority, this campaign offers information on the connection, an opportunity to learn language about the connection and the clue to the next location.

The visuals used in the posters would be specific of that local area. Along with the hashtag, which allows a communal space where people can post and discuss their hidden language findings to feel more connected to the world around us.

To be displayed in student areas of cities with universities or along bus routes for colleges and sixth forms.

Bus stop with AR feature

While people are waiting for a bus they have time to engage in the augmented reality feature within this advertisement. Scanning the QR code will take the user to a language learning game constant of the Duolingo app. This is an insight into the hunt and an opportunity for the user to experience the gamification of language learning through Localingo and Duolingo. 

Advertisements at campus

As cities often have students joining them from across the country and globe, this offers opportunity for Localingo to educate new students on their new local area. With banners addressing people new to the area, there's further promotion toward the target audience.

Social media promotion

Social media is used heavily around the age group of 16-22. This is why its important to allow a platform for both still adverts and moving videos of the adverts for social media spaces.

Youtube promotion

Youtube is one of the most common social platforms for people ages 16-22 this is why it was important to produce an advertising video for the youtube space.
